Notice is given under section 28(1) of the Local Electoral Act 2001, that electors of the Napier City Council have the right to demand a poll on the electoral system to be used at the next two triennial general elections (2013 and 2016) of the Napier City Council.

The choice is between the First Past the Post (FPP) and the Single Transferable Vote (STV) electoral systems. Unless a poll determines otherwise, the FPP electoral system will continue to be used for the Napier City Council.

A valid demand for a poll must be:

  • Made in writing.
  • Signed by at least 5 percent of eligible electors of the Napier City Council. This will require a minimum of 2070 elector signatures.
  • Delivered to the office of the Napier City Council, Hastings Street, Napier by 5.00pm Tuesday, 28 February 2012.

Every elector who signs a demand must also set out in it his or her full name and the address for which he or she is qualified as an elector of the Napier City Council.

For further information, please contact Warren Burch, Corporate Services Manager, phone (06) 834 4163. Dated at Napier, this 11th day of August 2011.
