Localist.co.nz, Auckland’s neighbourhood directory and social media service, has launched eight Twitter feeds to cover news and events in local Auckland regions.
“Aucklanders love Twitter but it’s not always easy drilling down to find specific things happening in your own neighbourhood patch,” said Localist’s Head of Marketing Sheryl Nichols.
"The new Localist Twitter feeds will allow Aucklanders to follow and tweet what's good in their local area.”
“Localist is an ideal vehicle to help Aucklanders on Twitter find out what’s happening nearby - things that other media don’t necessarily cover,” said Mrs Nichols.
Staying in touch will be especially important during the next few months with so much Rugby World Cup activity going on. Localist offers an Auckland directory and Auckland content service in one place – you can get everything from events information, to recommendations on a great place to have dinner, to the latest weather and traffic data.
Localist’s tweets are already a popular information source and several have been retweeted by the official Auckland Council and Auckland Mayor’s Twitter feeds.
"Localist is a one-stop-shop for people who want to get the most from Auckland. We keep you connected so you don’t miss out,” Mrs Nichols said.
In addition to the web site, Localist offers free iPhone and Android phone apps and publishes guide books that are distributed directly to homes, and available in NZ PostShops. The books are a local guide and business directory in one.
Besides Twitter feeds covering specific Auckland regions, there is a Localist Events account to alert Aucklanders to the wide range of events listed on Localist. The Offers account provides alerts on the hundreds of exciting offers listed on Localist.
“Localist has a popular and growing offers section in which local businesses announce offers and specials, and Twitter is another good channel for us to let people know instantly about them,” said Mrs Nichols.
