An enthusiastic group of more than 30 artists and performers with disabilities danced and sang against a backdrop of a visual arts exhibition at the recent IRIS Arts Therapy Show Case held at Mt Albert Memorial Hall, Auckland.

Under the guidance of qualified Arts Therapist Marion Gordon-Flower, the groups rose to the challenge of a public performance with many participants now looking forward to appearing in the spotlight again at the InterACT Disability Arts Festival at the end of October. InterACT will provide three days of arts activities for people of all abilities at two West Auckland venues.

IRIS Rehabilitation Manager Barbara Fox says arts therapy is particularly effective in meeting the needs of people with disabilities, 'Many of our clients find there are few opportunities for self-expression and arts therapy is a great way for them to be able to do this and address issues in their lives’.

IRIS provides services Arts Therapy groups and individual sessions covering visual arts, dance and movement in central Auckland. Visit IRIS at www.iris-health.org.nz or call 09 8466295
