On the first day of RWC 2011, Mayor Rick Cooper swore in seven new citizens at a ceremony in the Council Chambers, all of whom are from RWC competing countries.
The candidates were from South Africa, Samoa and England, with two of the English citizens having lived in Taupō for almost 40 years. “Which is almost as long as me,” says Mayor Cooper.
