Paul Holmes Talks about Erebus Tragedy at Dunedin City Library
Broadcaster, Paul Holmes will be at the Dunedin City Library on Wednesday 28 September, to discuss his latest book, Daughters of Erebus which re-examines the initial investigation into the crash of the Air New Zealand DC-10 aircraft in Antarctica, the wrongful blame placed upon the shoulders of the pilots by Air New Zealand, and the lasting impact it had upon their families.
Almost 32 years ago, on 28 November 1979, an Air New Zealand DC-10 ploughed into the slopes of Mt. Erebus, killing all 257 people on board. Initial investigations suggested pilot error. The ensuing official enquiry presided over by Justice Peter Mahon and his subsequent report unveiled a cover-up that implied involvement from Air New Zealand and the Government of the day.
The book examines the technical detail of the crash, and also explores the lives of the families, who have spent decades trying to set the record straight.
Now Paul Holmes has called for a parliamentary exoneration of Captain Jim Collins and First Officer Greg Cassin, and hopes ‘to clear it up once and for all’.
Holmes will be interviewed by fellow media presenter, Rodney Bryant, before the floor is opened to audience members for further questions.
Audience members are encouraged to book their ticket in advance. Book sales and signings will be available on the night.
