WELLINGTON CITY

South Africa have lost another player for the Rugby World Cup Pool D match against Fiji with wing Bryan Habana withdrawing because of a knee problem.

Habana trained on Tuesday but sat out the Wednesday session and will not be selected for Saturday's match.

A team spokesman said Habana has a sore patella tendon after getting a knock to the knee in the match against Wales on Sunday, won 17-16 by South Africa.

It means Habana's attempt at becoming the record try scorer for the Springboks is on hold for another week. He shares the record of 38 with former scrum half Joost van der Westhuizen.

South Africa had already lost centre Jean de Villiers (ribs) and second row Victor Matfield (hamstring) for the match at the Wellington Regional Stadium.

Fellow second row Bakkies Botha (Achilles tendinosis) trained for part of the Tuesday session but was running under the supervision of the team physiotherapist on Wednesday and his selection is uncertain.
