MARLBOROUGH

Mr Sowman officially opened the exhibition, which displays a broad range of pieces connected with Marlborough, both historic and contemporary. Behind Mr Sowman is one of the important paintings on display; an 1884 oil painting of Picton by early painter of South Island scenes,

Frank Huddleston, which is part of Marlborough's small public art collection. This painting was gifted to the Millennium Art Gallery by the Marlborough-based Coulthard art Trust which, last week, also offered the district another gift in the form of a modern sculpture for the banks of the Taylor River.

The Art Marlborough-Toi Wairau exhibition is showing until 31 October. www.marlboroughart.org.nz
