At six pounds, seven ounces, Hayden Emily Pritchard may not be the biggest Canada rugby fan, but she certainly means the most to full back James Pritchard.

His daughter was born just two hours before Canada’s kick-off against France in Napier on Sunday night.

Pritchard was disappointed he could not be present when his partner Jenni gave birth to their daughter, as the full back was helping his side give France a tough night.

"I wasn't able to be there, but I'll definitely remember where I was," he said.

"It would have been even better to remember if we were able to turn the French."

Canada lost to Les Bleus 46-19 in their Pool A encounter, Pritchard contributing two penalty goals and one conversion.

"It was hard to concentrate knowing I had just had a baby girl," Pritchard admitted.

"Just before the game it was hard to concentrate, but once the game started it was all rugby."
