Community decide Sports Personality of the Year

For the first time, it will be up to the community to decide this year’s Manawatu Sports Personality of the Year.

Sport Manawatu is asking for nominations from the public for individuals, groups or teams that have made a positive impression on the sporting community.

“In the past the personality of the year has been decided by a group of judges, with no nominations. This year we want to open it up to the community. It’s your chance to weigh in and tell us who has made a big impact on sport!” says Sport Manawatu’s Sean O’Connor.

“We have purposely kept the criteria quite general so it could be a group or individual. They could be nominated for their behavior, attitude or achievement in their sport. Or perhaps they are just a great inspiration,” he says.

All nominations will be narrowed down to a selection of finalists and the public will then be able to vote for their favourite personality.

The Sports Personality of the Year is part of the 2011 Central Energy Trust Manawatu Sportsperson of the Year Awards. The winner will be announced at the awards on Friday November 11, at the Awapuni Function centre.
