Napier Libraries will be providing members access to free eBooks via the Napier Libraries website from late November.

Napier Libraries have joined a consortium of 14 other lower North Island public libraries to work with OverDrive, a global distributor of digital media to libraries. The exciting new service will make both eBooks and audio books available to download.

Napier Libraries manager, Sheryl Reed, says library users with access to their own computers and other devices will love eBooks for many reasons.

“Many books can be downloaded onto one compact device, which is great for holidays and voracious readers,” Sheryl says.

“Font size can be adjusted and big heavy novels can be read on a lightweight eReader. There will be extra books to choose from in addition to the hardcopy titles housed in the Napier and Taradale library buildings.

“Overdue charges will not be an issue as the book will disappear from your eReader when the loan period expires; so that it is available for the next person.

“For people with an urgent need to read, eBooks will be available 24 hours a day! eBooks can be downloaded while you’re at work, at home or anywhere that has internet access.”

Sheryl says some eReaders may not be compatible with the OverDrive software.

“At this stage Kindle eReaders are incompatible, but this may change in the future.”
