ALANI (AGED 8) AND TAHITIA (AGED 7) Naisara-BABULAL were born in New Zealand as children of overstayer parents including one, Mr Yatesh Suresh BABULAL. Their mother was deported to her home country in 2005 leaving the girls to be cared for by Mr Babulal and his mother and step-father.

BY NOVEMBER 2010, Mr Babulal was served by Immigration New Zealand with a deportation order. He unsuccessfully took his case to the High Court and he has now made a final petition to the Minister of Immigration to allow him to remain here to care for his daughters.

SAYS MR BABULAL, “they are both New Zealand citizens and have no right to enter or remain in Fii. Plus, it is a third-world country currently run by a brutal military dictatorship. My whole family cannot believe that New Zealand would force its citizens to live in such a country where basics such as education, health care and other human rights are routinely and grossly denied.”

HE GOES ON TO SAY, “I cannot take my daughters back there as we will all be living on the streets so they will remain here with my very sick mother and hard-working step-father. The girls’ mother was deported many years ago, so they will have lost both of their parents to the harsh immigration laws, but I will not let them lose their country as well. They are both Kiwis, albeit apparently second-class ones due to having had the bad luck of the draw in being born to two overstayer parents.”

MR BABULAL’S APPLICATION with the Minister of Immigration Dr Jonathan Coleman was lodged on Friday the 30th of September 2011. Immigration New Zealand have given Mr Babulal until the 4th of October 2011 in which to arrange to leave.
