Whitney Irwin, the Southern songstress whose debut album was released earlier this year, is set to amaze audiences again as she takes centre stage at the Silver Ferns game tomorrow evening.

Whitney will be singing New Zealand’s national anthem when the Silver Ferns head into game two against England at Stadium Southland Velodrome in Invercargill.

Whitney released her debut album ‘Fly’ towards the end of July after she spent time recording in Los Angeles with Hollywood producers.

Whitney was then given an opportunity by netball New Zealand to sing at the Silver Ferns and England match in Southland.

“I feel so honoured to have been given the opportunity to sing for our nation’s netball team. It’s also really exciting to have this privilege on my home turf, having attended many Sting and Steele games”, says Whitney.

Her performance will be screened just after 7.30pm on Sky Sport One.

Whitney, a local Southland girl, who grew up on a sheep farm in Te Tipua, located 20 minutes out of Gore has become a house hold name in Southland.

Fly debuted at number five on the IMNZ charts taking out New Zealand music headliners such as Tiki Tane, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Annabel Fay. Whitney maintained her position in the top ten for three weeks.

The 21 year old Kiwi songstress launched her album at an exclusive event where local Southland Mayor, Tim Shadbolt was the evening’s MC. Since then Whitney has performed on TVNZ’s Good Morning, Newstalk ZB and featured in Creme and Girlfriend magazine.

The songstress is currently planning her album tour which is scheduled for next year. Whitney hopes to be able to tour with Carl Doy, who also assisted with her album collaboration.

Whitney’s album can be purchased nationwide from iTunes, The Warehouse, JB Hi Fi, Marbecks and can also be purchased in Southland from South City and Centre Point Liquorland, Play It Again records, Trevor Daley Music Works, Southland Museum, SPG Riverton and Cairns Music Works in Gore.
