Changes Planned For Busy Balmoral Intersection

Changes to be made to the Kennedy Road, Tennyson Street and Wellesley Road intersection are aimed at make the busy junction safer for vehicle traffic and pedestrians.

The merge area for vehicles driving west along the busy arterial will be lengthened and additional marking and signage will be provided to improve awareness of the existing two lanes merging into one.

In another move aimed at improving safety, particularly that of pedestrians, the entry angle of the free left-hand turn from Wellesley Road into Kennedy Road will be increased to about 70 degrees.

These changes are in line with recommendations from a crash reduction study.

The Napier City Council will continue monitoring the intersection to ensure vehicle and pedestrian safety is optimised.
