The revaluation of the District does not change the total amount of rates collected by Council.

What a revaluation does is to re-distribute the way valuation-based rates are charged to individual ratepayers – dependant on how the value of your property has changed in relation to others within your rating area.

Example: In the Blenheim Residential Rating Area, the average drop in Land Values was approximately 14%. If your Land Value decreased by more than 14%, you will most likely receive a decrease in rates. However if your Land Value decreased by less than 14%, you will most likely receive an increase in rates.

Remember too that your rates are not based on land value alone; a portion of rates are based on uniform charges; like the General Charge, specific sewerage and water charges, and the smaller refuse and recycling charges. They are not affected by the property revaluation.
