Flooding continues to cause problems in Southland this afternoon, with both the Aparima-Otautau road and the Taramoa side of the Taramoa-West Plains road closed. The Taramoa-West Plains road has water running across it and drivers are warned not to try crossing it. Waikaia is now reachable after being isolated by floodwaters this morning.

Floodwaters are going down in most northern areas but the Pyramid-Waiparu Road is still affected. Late this morning the Riversdale-Pyramid Road was impassable at the Pyramid bridge.

Drivers are asked to take care on the following roads:

  • Riversdale Waikaia Road
  • Happy Valley Road, Tuatapere
  • Roy Road
  • Felton Road
  • Keowns Bridge

For information on when rivers will be peaking, please check the Environment Southland website www.es.govt.nz.

For state highway conditions, please check www.nzta.govt.nz and for further general roading updates check www.aa.co.nz. A further update will be sent out if necessary.
