HASTINGS

My Voice My Choice is a new online channel which represents a bold move by Hastings District Council to make it easier and more convenient for residents to have their say on decisions made in their community.

Council currently uses a range of traditional avenues to communicate with residents on important issues. These include consultation documents, public meetings and inviting written submissions. However, it has become evident that in today’s busy society these channels only attract a limited cross section of the community.

My Voice My Choice will use the latest online technology and social networking to allow a much larger range of residents the chance to have their say on the future of Hastings. From how money is invested to how major projects are shaped and put into effect, My Voice My Choice will enable Hastings people to put forward their views in a way and at a time which is most convenient to them.

Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule says” There are strong democratic reasons for closely involving local people in the decisions that shape their communities. Input from residents ensures services are better suited to local needs and also helps them play an active part in determining the future of their community.”

“Effective communication is critical if we are to have a well informed and engaged community. This is something Council has been placing a strong emphasis on. My Voice My Choice will take this a step further, becoming a two way conversation with the people of Hastings. Listening to the experiences and ideas of people in our community will help us find solutions which make a lasting difference, “Communications and Marketing Manager Paul Evans says.

Mr Evans says” Whether you are a texter, typer or talker, My Voice My Choice will allow you to put your thoughts on issues to council quickly and easily from home.”

As the words say ‘My Voice’ gives you the chance to have your say, ‘My Choice’ allows you to say it in a way which is most convenient to you.
