Work on preparing the land for Hastings’ second inner city park is about to begin.

In March this year, Hastings District Council purchased a 6000 square metre block of land, bounded by St Aubyn Street, King Street and Avenue Road, from the Hastings RSA for the creation of an inner city park. It is proposed that 2/3 of the land would be used for the development of a passive park and children’s playground while the remainder has been set aside for a state of the art skate park.

While public consultation continues on the design of the park itself, council will begin the tidy up of the area which needs some remedial work done before park construction can begin.

The remedial work will begin on Monday November 7th and is likely to take two days. This will involve the removal of old concrete, pipes, gravel and silt.
Public submissions on the concept plan for the park are open until Friday November 16th. The plans are available at www.hastingsdc.govt.nz/skatepark and you can comment on them by visiting the Hastings Skate+Park Facebook page at www.facebook.com/hastingsnzskatepark

The development of the park will provide a valuable community asset and is in line with the council’s commitment to provide more greenspace around the city.
