Exercising in the great outdoors is priceless and Tararua is leading the way with a new way to look at health and fitness. The new outdoor gym, at Woodville’s Fountaine Square, was opened on Saturday 29 October - by Tararua Deputy Mayor Bill Keltie.
The project; funded by Woodville District Vision and Eastern & Central Communities Trust, Lotteries Grants and Rural Communities Trust, cost approximately $20,000 and took more than two years to plan. Gym equipment – including an air walker, rowing machine and strider were installed by the Woodville Lions.
Nick White and Carol Wilton from Woodville District Vision were the driving force behind the project and Carole Wilton said, “a survey of residents revealed a strong backing for the concept. The first benefit is very obvious – you are out in the fresh air doing exercises. What can be better than that? Another point in favour of this outdoor gym is there is no membership fee.”
