On Wednesday 26th October, Council agreed to proceed with the purchase of a 4 x 4 medium rural fire water carrier at a cost of $140,000 to be based at Weber.

Council staff applied for and received approval for a grant of $60,000 towards the purchase of a water carrier from the National Rural Fire Authority in July. Funding for the remainder $60,000 development capital expenditure, $14,000 re-directed renewal capital expenditure, $6,000 from operational savings.

A medium rural fire water carrier would be a district wide resource that could be used in rural fire and civil defence situations, district resilience. It is essential that volunteer rural fire forces are equipped with the correct equipment to safeguard life and property, reports Paddy Driver District Resilience Manager.
