AUCKLAND

A gold coin donation at the Farmers Santa Parade can make a world of difference to the six Kiwis a day who are diagnosed with blood cancer or a related condition.

For the fourth year, the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation (LBF) is participating at the annual parade and collecting gold coin donations from the public.

Christmas is the season for giving and the funds are destined to aid the not-for-profit organisation’s work across New Zealand supporting blood cancer patients and their families. Its work includes patient support, research, providing information, increasing awareness and patient advocacy.

Last year, LBF raised around $9,000 during the Farmers Santa Parade.

Pru Etcheverry who is Executive Director of the LBF says the organisation is thrilled to be involved in the Santa Parade again this year.

“We are simply thankful New Zealanders continue to generously open their hearts to help fellow Kiwis in need - those diagnosed with blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood conditions,” Pru says.

Farmers Santa Parade organiser Pam Glaser says the parade gives those who participate and attend a great sense of community involvement.

“We are so happy the LBF is joining us again this year and are delighted to offer support to such a worthy cause. The Farmers Santa Parade is a family event and with cancer unfortunately affecting many New Zealand families we are thankful we can provide a focus on the foundation and its work.”

Besides being dressed in festive costumes, the LBF collectors will also be wearing LBF-branded vests for ease of recognition – if you are at the Farmers Santa Parade this year, spare some change and drop a gold coin in a collector’s bucket.
