Stoneleigh’s newest addition to its range of Marlborough wines, Stoneleigh Latitude, heralding from Marlborough’s ‘Golden Mile’, has struck gold at the 31st Sydney International Wine Competition.

Stoneleigh Latitude Sauvignon Blanc 2011 was awarded Blue-Gold status in the prestigious 2012 Sydney International Wine Competition. This is the wine’s first vintage for the Stoneleigh Latitude range of wines and Stoneleigh Latitude Pinot Gris 2011 also received a highly commended award as did Stoneleigh Rapaura Series Marlborough Chardonnay 2010.

“This is a fabulous result and we are all extremely pleased that Stoneleigh Latitude Sauvignon Blanc 2011 has shown its class in winning Blue-Gold at the Sydney competition,” says Stoneleigh winemaker Jamie Marfell.

“We took great care to ensure the terroir of the ‘Golden Mile’ is expressed and reflected at its very best through the Stoneleigh Latitude wines. With the Sauvignon Blanc, there are aromas of citrus blossom and fresh pineapple, which lead into a rich tropical palate with honeydew melon, pineapple, grapefruit zest and a flinty minerality that lingers.”

The Sydney International Wine Competition recognises wines of special merit in two main categories — Blue-Gold Award winners and wines highly commended by the judging panel of fourteen judges from Australia, New Zealand, and the UK which included six Masters of Wine. The competition is unique in that wines are divided into classes based on palate weight and ultimately assessed alongside appropriate food.

Annually, this competition caps its entries at 2,000 and the full results of the 2012 competition, including Trophy Winners, will be announced at the Presentation Banquet in Sydney on Saturday 25 February 2012.

Stoneleigh Latitude wines are available from grocery, retail and on-premise outlets - RRP $26.99.
