A motor cyclist is 20 times more at risk of being involved in a road accident involving death or injury than a car driver and the bigger the bike, the more likely the accident is to be fatal.

Almost half of all motorcycle accidents are caused by drivers of other vehicles, showing the importance of motorcyclists learning to drive defensively.

Motorcyclists have less stability and less protection than those driving a car and they’re less visible to other road users so good driving skills are all the more important.

There are two opportunities for Marlborough bikers to polish up those skills with rider training days coming up this month at the Kart Track on Wither Road. RoadSafe, a Wellington firm of riding instructors specialising in teaching motorcycling riding techniques, is conducting the courses.

Lunch and refreshments are provided as part of the $20 fee. Spaces are limited and the training days are heavily subsidised so they are very good value.

  • Techniques for less experienced riders: Saturday 19 November, 9.00 am-4.30 pm
  • Brushing up skills and filling in gaps for advanced riders: Sunday 20 November, 9.00 am-4.30 pm

Two more training days are scheduled for March next year.
