As another year comes to its end, the Auckland Regional Migrant Services (ARMS) is committed to ensuring that our new Aucklanders, coming now from over 120 countries, are provided with the best possible assistance with their settlement needs. This is crucial to the Auckland’s future economic growth and success as the world’s most liveable city.

In the last financial year (2010 – 2011), ARMS assisted over 4,000 newcomers with settlement and employment enquiries and needs. In its role of lead settlement agency in Auckland, ARMS works very closely with the Auckland Council, central government, and many other crucial community agencies.

For new Aucklanders finding suitable employment relevant to their skills and experience is the number one priority and challenge. Throughout the past year, ARMS has delivered 86 Migrant Employment Assistance workshops across Auckland. ARMS has also contributed to the Auckland Council’s many planning consultations, identifying emerging issues and challenges faced by new Aucklanders and their culturally diverse communities.

ARMS acknowledges the patronage and support over the past five years of Sir Anand Satyanand, former Governor-General of New Zealand, as well as the enormous dedication and contribution of retiring Trust Chair, Colin Dale, over the past ten years.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of four new Trustees – Gurbrinder Aulakh, Gaila BarHava-Monteith, Nelson Egadu, and Emma Kelly – who bring with them a wealth of professional talent and cultural expertise.

ARMS’ Annual Public Meeting on the 22nd of November from 3.00pm to 4.30pm is open to the media.
