The Te Puke - Tauranga bus commuter route has proved to be such a popular transport option for Te Puke residents that additional trips have been added to the service.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council Public Transport Subcommittee Chairman Doug Owens said that the service which started in January 2010 is up 65 percent on patronage from last year and continues to grow.

"We have increased the number of buses running the Te Puke - Tauranga route to reduce the pressure on other services and manage demand."

"I congratulate those Te Puke residents who are making the sustainable choice to take the bus to work," Councillor Owens said.

The Te Puke to Tauranga Service used to make just one return trip per day, but with the changes buses are now running three return trips each day.

"The Te Puke to Tauranga bus route is not only great for commuters but is also a good option for Te Puke residents who want to head into Bayfair or the Tauranga CBD for shopping."

"The bus is a win-win transport option saving you money as well as helping care for the environment," said Councillor Owens.

The new schedule for the Te Puke to Tauranga route can be found on baybus.co.nz or call 0800 4 BAYBUS (229 28).
