Franklin District Council is once again supporting the South Auckland Family Violence Prevention Network ‘Choose 2 B Violence Free’ week. On 7th November Council will be hosting a travelling bus and taking it around the three main town centres to promote the vision of a “Violence Free Franklin.”

The bus will be in the townships at approximately:

Waiuku, Queen St (opposite Bowen Street): 9.30am – 11.15am
Pukekohe Town Square: 11.45am – 1.45pm
Tuakau, George Street (opposite town hall): 2pm – 3.30pm

Mayor Mark Ball will be visiting the bus around 12noon in Pukekohe Town Square to support the vision of Franklin being violence free.

“Anyone is welcome to visit the bus which provides a safe, anonymous place to get information on family violence,” says Franklin District Council Policy Officer, Dianne Pentz.

It is also a chance for everyone to pick up a free teal ribbon to wear in support of being violence free.

The bus visited last year and, despite bad weather, the day was a big success with people appreciating getting information on organisations which will support them if they are affected by violence.

“Helping to support the social wellbeing of Franklin is an important role for Council. Through initiatives like the travelling bus we hope to help keep Franklin safe and decrease violence within the District,” says Diane.

Franklin District Council is organising the event in partnership with the South Auckland Family Violence Prevention Network (SAFVPN), a network of agencies and individuals working in the field of family violence in the Counties Manukau area. If your organisation would also like to be involved please contact Diane at Franklin District Council, 09 237 1300.
