People who are keen to see what summer has in store for the district can now get a sneak peek at the programme on the Summerdaze website.

Queenstown Lakes District Council arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell said the official brochure was set to be delivered to every local home district-wide in the first week of December but people could view it now at www.summerdaze.co.nz.

Mrs Maxwell said the annual month-long festival which will kick off on New Year’s Eve, is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

“We’re very excited by the strength of this year’s programme and the range of events on offer” she said.

“There are plenty of old favourites returning and some exciting new events have joined the Summerdaze family.”

This year Summerdaze would be celebrating Chinese New Year with a Chinese brush painting workshop for children. The Arrowtown based workshop would be held with the guidance of professional brush painter Stan Chan.

“We’ve also extended the hugely popular kite making workshops to Queenstown,” Mrs Maxwell said.

“With workshops now taking place in both Queenstown and Wanaka, we’re sure the Grand Kite Display will be even more spectacular than last year.”

Mrs Maxwell said there were plenty of opportunities to get active with events like “Race the Train”, a race against vintage steam engine the Kingston Flyer taking place in Kingston and The Big Easy Mountain Bike and Mountain Marathon wending its way from the Snow Farm to Albertown via the magnificent Pisa Range.

Those who wanted to ‘kick back’ and relax were well served with plenty watch and listen to, from the Earthtonz NYE Music Festival at Gibbston Valley Winery through to outdoor movies at the Wanaka Showgrounds and theatre in the Queenstown Gardens.

“Summerdaze gives us the chance to get together and celebrate part of the community,” Mrs Maxwell said.

“The good weather is on the way so let’s make sure we enjoy everything this summer brings.”
