AUCKLAND

A shiny new-look Santa’s float hit the streets of Auckland City today, much to the delight of the thousands of spectators who came out to celebrate the festive season.

Santa was the star attraction at today’s 78th annual Farmers Santa Parade which thrilled the crowds with its exciting content and talented entertainers. Highlights included giant inflatable balloons, energetic dancers, colourful characters and an outstanding collection of fantasy floats – including the brand new Christmas Elf, Ima Rock Lobster and Latin Fiesta floats.

Chairman of the Auckland Children’s Christmas Parade Trust Michael Barnett says the parade was more spectacular than ever before.

“Each year the Farmers Santa Parade astounds me but this year it has exceeded all my expectations as Auckland’s premier family event. A lot of hard work goes into the day and the end result is just superb. The parade would not be possible without the support of our sponsors so it is thanks to them that the event is so outstanding,” says Mr Barnett.

Farmers Managing Director Rod McDermott says it is a pleasure to bring the festive event to the streets of Auckland each year.

“We’re absolutely wrapt with this year’s parade and are very thankful to the 4,000 volunteers who made this day so special. So many people give so much of their time and energy to this event - it’s a humbling experience and one Farmers is delighted to support. We wish every New Zealander a safe and enjoyable Christmas holiday,” says Mr McDermott.
