Petrobras wins Platts 2011 Energy Company awards

Petrobras was doubly honored last night, winning the Platts Global Energy Awards for Energy Company and Energy Producer of the Year. CEO José Sergio Gabrielli de Azevedo accepted the awards during a ceremony held at the Cipriani restaurant, in New York.

Applauded by more than 100 executives from around the world, Mr. Gabrielli said that the awards represented "recognition that the company is on the right path." The Platts agency, a leading global energy and commodities information company, made the awards in recognition of the advances made by Petrobras in the energy and gas sector, based on criteria that included technological innovation, environmental responsibility, efficiency and commitment to sustainability.

This is the twelfth Platts Global Energy Awards Ceremony and the 19 award-winners were chosen by an independent panel of international experts including energy ministers, regulatory agency officers, executives of large energy companies, legislators and academics.

Petrobras was also shortlisted for the Industry Leadership and CEO of the Year awards. The Company also won the Platts award for Oil and Gas Producer of the Year in 2008.

Global Forum on Energy

Yesterday afternoon, Mr. Gabrielli attended the 5th Global Energy Outlook Forum, also organized by Platts. As guest of honor, he spoke about Petrobras' pioneering approach to ultra-deepwater operations and the development of the oil industry in Brazil.

Mr. Gabrielli also emphasized the growing demand for energy in emerging markets such as Brazil, China and India, and the prospects for growth in these countries. He also stressed the importance of investing in energy efficiency and biofuels to build a sustainable future.
