Never visited a regional park? The Great Outdoors summer events programme is just the ticket for introducing you to some of the most spectacular landscapes in the region.

“This year we’re running the Summer Sampler – a series of short walks in regional parks that are great for families and suitable for most fitness levels. They’re guided by Greater Wellington’s park rangers and are a great ‘taster’ for all that our parks have to offer,” says Greater Wellington’s Social and Cultural Wellbeing Committee Chair Nigel Wilson.

“There are plenty of events on offer for regular regional park visitors too. I highly recommend booking a place on Explore Baring Head to discover Greater Wellington’s newest addition to its regional park network. Another exciting new event is Hikoi Ki Whitireia – Whitireia History Walk, which uncovers the rich history of this important site.”

Old favourites such as 4WD adventures, introductions to horse riding, Kev the Wandering Kiwi walks, guided nature tours, rugged tramps and fly fishing are on offer in the programme, which has 69 events, making it the biggest ever Great Outdoors.

Most of the events are either free or low-cost. Many need to be booked in advance so make sure you get in quick. You can view the full programme and book at www.gw.govt.nz/events. You can also get information and book by calling 04 830 4041 or emailing bookings@gw.govt.nz.
