Mayor Rick Cooper swore in nine adults and one child as citizens of New Zealand today at an official Citizenship Ceremony in the Council Chambers.

The nine new citizens were originally from the United Kingdom, South Africa, The Netherlands and Fiji. Mayor Rick Cooper congratulated the group on their long journey to citizenship, saying that becoming a New Zealand citizen is no easy task these days. “It is a long and tough journey, so well done to you all, and welcome to your new home.”

Seven year old Ariane Morris was sworn in with her parents, Paul and Katherine Morris from the UK, but she too promised Mayor Rick Cooper that she would abide by the laws of New Zealand and to listen to her parents.
