Waitaki District Council has responded to a complaint from a member of the public in regards to a dislodged piece of masonry from the old Junction hotel. This building has been vacant for a number of years and lack of regular building maintenance is apparent.
The Regulatory Services Group are working with the owner, who has had the building initially assessed by an engineer to identify areas requiring urgent repair, to bring it up to the standards required under the Building Act 2004.
To ensure safety at the site and the adjacent public footpath a pedestrian exclusion barrier has been erected.
This barrier is a precautionary measure and is limited to the footpath outside the Old Junction hotel at 62 WANSBECK STREET.
