New Zealand high end fashion label Brooklyn Zoo launched successfully its summer range last week at No. 1 High Street titled “Coney Island The Nickel Empire” on Tuesday 6th December 2011 but with an unexpected twist!

Guests were allured into the venue by the smooth sounds of the Brooklyn Jazz Trio featuring the talented New Zealand artist Jesse Sheean. As guests had their photo taken and sipped away on their complimentary VnC Cocktail the lights went out, smoke appeared and a black carpet was rolled out by a team of men wearing all black and balaclavas. Two very scary looking clowns then screamed down the runway opening the carnival “Coney Island” inspired fashion show. The runway show was themed with bright coloured make up and carnival props along with Culet jewellery. The party then got cranking with beats from Mai FM DJ Sir-Vere.

The star factor of the night included NZ Next Top Model icon Colin Mathura-Jeffree, FOUR presenters Shannon Ryan and Drew Neemia, Seth Haapu, Illegal artists J Williams and Brooke, Scott Nicols, Clinton Randell, Recent fight for life winner and Mai FM Breakfast host Wairangi Koopu and Fashion bloggers Katy Thomas and Katherine Lowe.

“Brooklyn Zoo’s 2011/12 Summer Collection ‘Coney Island the Nickel Empire’ captures the nostalgic heyday of Coney Island’s empire during the 1920’s. The collection synthesizes both grunge and vintage styles to represent the luminous world of Coney Island today and during its prime throughout the 1920’s whilst drawing influence from early 90’s New York street culture.” says young designer Joel Williams.

“Its always great to see a designers new season…it represents new beginnings like a new day dawning….crisp, masculine and simple.” says Colin Mathura-Jeffree.

The young entrepreneur develops the androgynous narrative of the Brooklyn Zoo brand, using long silhouettes, asymmetric curves and luxurious fabrics including treated leather, organic cotton, merino wool and plush velvet sourced primarily from Europe and Japan.

Brooklyn Zoo works to create pieces that retain a sense of quality and sophistication which also possess a street edge, this conceptual collection merges both men and women styles into the unique Brooklyn Zoo aesthetic.

Brooklyn Zoo just launched a Christmas sale online at www.brooklynzoo.co.nz. To launch the new range for Summer 2011/12 Brooklyn Zoo are offering 30% off all available stock for the Christmas rush.
