As a precautionary measure, residents from approximately 30 homes above the Rocks Road slip will be evacuated after a geotechnical inspection noted recent land movements.

A slip inspection just completed has identified further cracks in the slope, upslope and next to approximately 30 homes in the Grenville Terrace area between Rocks Road and Bisley Avenue.

Water, sewerage and wastewater may have been disrupted by the recent ground movements. In addition, the possibility of further land movement cannot be ruled out.

Until the safety and integrity of the services can be verified, Civil Defence has determined that these homes need to be evacuated.

Civil Defence Controller Alec Louverdis says, “Even though a property may not show signs of damage, it is part of a larger block being affected by slope movements and we must take every precaution we can.”

Residents will register with Civil Defence so that they can be cared for with welfare assistance and support, if necessary.

“We will be reviewing the situation regularly and aim to contact residents daily to keep them updated about our progress. As soon as it is safe to allow them to return to their homes, we will let them know.”
