Major Upgrade For Rural Road

Work is to start on 9 January on upgrading the hill section of Puketapu Road.

The Napier City Council has awarded the contract to Higgins and the reconstruction project is expected to be completed mid-year.

The road, rated the city’s current top priority rural project, will be widened to eight metres following the existing alignment. That will be achieved with earthworks, retaining walls, subsoil drains and kerb and channel.

A footpath is to be constructed behind the kerb on one side of the road which will have guardrails and handrails where necessary to make it safer for growing numbers of walkers and cyclists who favour this route.
