Canon Media Awards 2012 in the frame
The cut off for entries into New Zealand’s premier awards recognising media excellence, the Canon Media Awards, is just one month away.
The last date for submissions is set for Wednesday 8th February and this year’s entries have already set the bar high, says Canon New Zealand Country Manager Mike Johnston.
“The past 12 months delivered quite a series of events, both good and bad, which defined 2011 and were each a major focus for our national media. The Rugby World Cup, an historic test cricket win over Australia, the 2011 election and unfortunately the tragic disaster of Christchurch’s February earthquake and the stranding of the Rena.”
Canon has been involved with the annual Newspaper Publishers’ Association (NPA) awards since 2006, formerly known as the Qantas Media Awards, and last year taking over the primary naming sponsorship.
Johnston says the decision was an easy one given the company’s longstanding relationship with the awards and its role as a supplier to many of New Zealand’s top photojournalists.
“The Canon Media Awards is a fantastic opportunity to showcase New Zealand’s media talent,”
“Canon is delighted to be both sponsor and part of this event and celebrates all the great efforts of the New Zealand print and online media.”
The Canon Media Awards 2011 attracted a record 1,314 entries. This figure represents the most competitive pool of talent since the awards’ inception and a promising sign for the growth of the industry.
“We are looking forward to 2012 being the most competitive awards yet and given the high caliber of our media and outstanding quality of work submitted last year we envisage a tough time and much deliberation for the judging panel.” says Johnston
Entries close: February 8th, 2012
