Rhodes A Late Entry Into Pegasus Triathlon
Popular Canterbury triathlete Bryan Rhodes is a late entry for tomorrow’s Contact Tri Series race at Pegasus, just north of Christchurch, the third in the 7 race national Contact Tri Series.
The Ironman stalwart has made the decision to race in the sprint distance Contact Trophy race as a tune up for next weekend’s Challenge Wanaka.
“I entered the race last minute for a good hit out before next weekend’s Challenge Wanaka and to see where I'm at early season. While the distance is obviously a little shorter than I am used to these days, it'll be a good chance to sharpen up my transitions and have a little hit out before I begin to taper off for the Iron distance race next Saturday.
“I like opportunities to see where I'm at in a competitive environment. Plus I simply love racing so it is a chance to get the adrenalin pumping with the old clock ticking away at the finish line.
“I will also will be interested to see how my time over the sprint distance matches up to the results of the ‘Doddsy Challenge’ next weekend at the Contact race in Wanaka, although I might have to allow for it being draft legal down there!!”
Entered in the 35 to 39 age category, Rhodes is one of the great warriors of the sport and has a long history in triathlon, in particular in Ironman distance events with numerous international wins and podiums to his name.
In more recent times Rhodes has overcome a serious Achilles injury to return to top flight racing and will be a podium contender again at Challenge Wanaka and with his pedigree and competitive edge, he will no doubt contend for a top three finish at Pegasus tomorrow too.
Entries are open online at www.triseries.co.nz or at registration on Saturday 14th January at Jellie Park Recreation Centre, 295 Ilam Road, Burnside, from 3pm to 5pm. There are no late entries on race day.
