BAY OF PLENTY

A navigational warning was issued this morning in the eastern Bay of Plenty.

Please note that this is the same navigational warning that is in place for the western Bay of Plenty with the exception of the localised information about where debris has been sighted.

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council Harbour Master advises the following:

  • The debris field from the MV Rena has been sighted in the area around the Volkner Rocks, in the eastern Bay of Plenty.
  • Any unnecessary voyages should be avoided.
  • If vessels in the eastern Bay of Plenty do go out, they should maintain a proper lookout by sight and sound and travel at slow speed while transiting local waters.
  • Additionally, vessels should be off the water by dark.
