Scott Halsted convincingly won the Berkshire Boys Intermediate (Under 17) Cross-Country championships at Wellington College on Saturday. He was well clear of the fields and 40 seconds up on last year’s winning time.

Scott was born in Porirua and still retains his New Zealand citizenship. He briefly attended Papakowhai Kindergarten before his parents relocated to England in 1999.

On 7 January at Newbury, Scott placed 2nd in the in Berkshire County Under 17 Boys race and has been selected to represent Berkshire at the England National Cross-Country Championships in Brighton next weekend. He has also been selected to represent Berkshire Schools at the English Schools National Championships in mid-March.
Scott hopes to, one day, be selected to represent New Zealand.

New Zealand born Fern Brereton won the Girls Intermediate race in fine style. On 7 January she also won the Berkshire County Under 17 Girls race and, likewise, has been selected to represent Berkshire at the England National Cross-Country Championships and Berkshire Schools at the English Schools National Championships.

On a flying visit to visit relatives in New Zealand last year – on a whim she entered and won the Auckland girl’s cross-country championships as well.
