Council seeking nominations of people who help Keep Rotorua Beautiful

Rotorua District Council (RDC) is encouraging local people to nominate those in the community who could potentially be recipients of one of this year’s Keep Rotorua Beautiful Awards.

Nominees must be locals who have made a difference to the beautification of Rotorua through activities such as picking up litter on a regular basis, removing tagging as a volunteer, or being involved in the outstanding renovation of a building.

There are two categories: Corporate Award and Community Award, and each will receive a trophy.

RDC’s Keep Rotorua Beautiful coordinator Christine Findon says the past winners of the awards are an amazing group of people who have contributed to the city’s aesthetics in many different ways.

“Past winners have included a person who organised regular wombles (litter pick-ups) on Paradise Valley Road; a property developer who recycled all the old waste material off his building sites and encouraged his contractors to do likewise on other sites; local residents who planted stream banks with native trees and continued with their upkeep; and people who renovated an old ‘eyesore’ building transforming it into something quite remarkable.

“There are all kinds of activities that could result in someone being selected as a worthy recipient of an award.”

The annual Keep Rotorua Beautiful Awards function and announcement of winners will take place at the Rotorua District Council Civic Centre on Tuesday 20 March.
