The Marlborough District Council is preparing a management plan for the Taylor River Reserve and is keen to hear your ideas, comments and suggestions.

Council would like to know if there is interest in forming a Community Trust to lead the project.

The area from Taylor Dam to the Riverside Park amphitheatre is used and enjoyed by many people for exercise, dog-walking and recreation and it is also a relaxed and open space for neighbouring houses and businesses. There are some ideas already, such as more Tui-to-Town native plantings and a permanent events space.

  • How would you like to see the area develop?
  • What activities, plantings, events and amenities do you suggest?
  • Would you be interested in being part of a Community Trust to be involved with the project?

Ideas are also being sought for land uses along the Opawa River to assist in the vision from the ‘Dam to the Sea’. Ideas so far include a walking and cycle path all the way to the Wairau lagoon, tui-to-town plantings and events areas,” says Marlborough Landscape Group project leader Bill Peter. “But there will be lots of other ideas out there and we’re keen to hear them. So please take this opportunity to also send in ideas for the stretch of river from town to the Wairau Lagoons.

The Taylor River Floodway Reserve Recreation and Amenity Plan will be prepared in accordance with s.41 Reserves Act 1977.

Both Plans, Taylor Dam to Riverside and Riverside to the Sea, will need to fit with flood control requirements and potential development ideas may be constrained by flood control considerations.

A draft plan will be put together for your feedback so this will not be your last chance to comment.
