HAWKE'S BAY

This Sunday is forecast to be hot and what better way to laze the day away than to take a scenic drive into the Hawke’s Bay countryside, listen to laid back music, picnic on delicious foods, and taste wines with a different.

Six boutique wineries are joining forces to share their wares at a ‘Meet the Makers’ event to be held at de la terre Winery, from 11am to 5pm.

de la terre Winery is located off the beaten track on the Napier Taihape Road, 10 minutes drive from the Fernhill Road turnoff.

The unique and distinctive earth brick winery, with its cellar door featuring stained glass windows and handcrafted furniture, is a picturesque attraction in itself, according to owner and winemaker, Tony Prichard.

In addition to wine tasting and sales of current, special one-offs and library releases, visitors can meet the winemakers and chat about their wines. People are encouraged to bring their own umbrellas and seating so they can stay and enjoy the music of Napier singer and guitarist, James Rochester.
A variety of food and non alcoholic drink will be available for purchase.

The event is a regular one organised by the Hawke’s Bay Boutique Winemakers’ Group made up of small owner-operator wineries producing less than 10,000 cases. A number do not have a cellar door of their own and enjoy these special days where they can meet people and watch them try their wines.
Lyn Bevin, executive officer of Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers, says “The atmosphere is always relaxed and casual with a good variety of interesting and new wines. If you want to see and taste wines that you don’t see every day at the supermarket, this is a great place to start.”

Those attending include Tukipo River Estate, de la terre Winery, Hawkes Ridge Wine Estate, Ash Ridge Wines, Beach House Wines, and Lime Rock Wines.
