The White Ferns have suffered a nine-wicket loss to Australia in Rose Bowl One Day International at Blacktown International Sportspark, Sydney, [29 January]

With two earlier matches abandoned due to rain today’s fixture was a one-off match to decide the winner with current holders Australia retaining the trophy.

Leah Poulton (61) and Alex Blackwell (50) put on an unbroken partnership of 104 for the second wicket as Australia reached 126 for one.

Earlier, Australia dismissed the White Ferns for 125 in the 40th over after their batsmen struggled to cope with the control and swing of seamers Julie Hunter and Ellyse Perry.

Middle order batmen Liz Perry (27) and Katey Perkins (33) resisted for a brief period but more was required from the specialists up the order if they were to compete against a very good Australian outfit.

Australian new-ball bowler Hunter removed the top three early to finish with three for 31 while Perry helped mop up the tail to return tidy figures of three for 16.

Seamer Lea Tahuhu removed Rachael Hayes to claim the White Ferns only wicket.

The White Ferns now turn their attention to the T20 INTL Series as they look to collect their first win of the tour. Australia currently have a 3-0 lead with the two remaining matches played as double-headers alongside the men’s Twenty20 Internationals on Wednesday at Sydney Olympic Park and Friday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
