Once schools are back, the Napier City Council will be starting work on bolstering an area of eroding foreshore along Hardinge Road.

Wave action has eroded a section of rock armouring, and the subsidence, north of Spriggs Park and flanking the popular Pathway, has been screened off to protect passersby.

The repair will be effected using filter cloth crushed concrete and large limestone rocks to create an effective barrier against battering high seas.

The work, to be completed by the end of February, will involve minimal impact on walkers and cyclists using the concrete pathway, vehicle traffic and Hardinge Road residents.

Meanwhile, the consultant who advised the Council on the varying degrees of erosion along the Ahuriri foreshore is developing a phased plan for protecting the 700m length of susceptible shoreline so costs can be incorporated into the Ten Year Capital Plan.
