At the Hare Krishna Festival, you will meet a monk wearing saffron coloured clothes, full of humility, with lots of smiles, reservoir of humour, and one who is generously imparting Krishna Consciousness to all. This Saturday, 11 February 2012 at the Odlins Plaza in Wellington, come and meet His Holiness Janananda Goswami Maharaj (pictured below) who is a well known Hare Krishna monk. Maharaj was born in the United Kingdom and He was initiated by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada in 1972. He holds various positions in the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and served Srila Prabhupada in various countries notably the United Kingdom, Africa, Malaysia, Europe, Philippines and New Zealand. His Holiness Janananda Maharaj is a very exalted devotee, travelling and preaching all over the world, the main driving force behind the World Holy Name initiative and various other wonderful projects in ISKCON. He is also a member of the Kirtan and Transcendental Music Standards Committee. His kirtans, harinam, congregational chanting, spontaneous skits, realizations, scholarliness, witty nature, humility and many other transcendental qualities attract even the most casual souls to the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada and Lord Krishna. So grab the opportunity to personally associate with Maharaj at the Festival.
Sweets are an integral part of any Krishna Conscious Festival and in many Indian traditions. To add another flavour to the Hare Krishna Festival, the staff from the various emergency services departments in Wellington have volunteered to take part in a gulab jamun (a delicious Indian sweet) eating competition. Watch your everyday heroes compete in a very Krishna Conscious game of eating as many gulab jamun as they can. You will also get a recipe to make your very own gulab jamun and have a heavenly experience when you eat
yours.
