Delve into the rich heritage of Porirua’s Whitireia Park with members of Ngāti Toa Rangatira at Hikoi Ki Whitireia – Whitireia History Walk this Thursday.

“Ngāti Toa Rangatira extends a warm welcome to the community and the wider public to join with us in commemorating Whitireia’s important historic and natural features. We look forward to sharing our heritage and stories as we explore this stunning landscape,” says Ngāti Toa Rangatira representative Jennie Smeaton.

In this special Ngāti Toa Rangatira-Greater Wellington event, participants will visit important historical sites including the landing place of the famed Kupe of Māori legend, and enjoy panoramic views of the wider Porirua area.

Ngāti Toa Rangatira will also talk about the recent history and present-day importance of the site, covering how the site became the centre of landmark legislation regarding Treaty of Waitangi settlements and continues to be a focal point of Porirua city.
