Work of early NZ designers re-issued
Early NZ tourism and travel posters designed by important twientieth NZ designers including Leonard Cornwall Mitchell (1901-1971) and Marcus King (1891-1983) have been recently been re-ssued and are now available through New Zealand Fine Prints.
LC Mitchell completed over 90 NZ stamp designs (some of which won international awards) as well as some of NZ's best known "vintage poster" designs for tourist destinations such as "Mitre Peak, Milford Sound" pictured. Marcus King arguable was more expressive within the poster medium - his "Winter Sports at Mount Tongariro National Park" is technically crisp in its dynamic portrayal of the skiers' movement. Early publicity posters from designers like MItchell and King were originally commissioned by entitities such as the Government Tourist and Publicity Department and the NZ Railways Publicity Department.
