MARLBOROUGH

Drivers travelling on State Highway One between Blenheim and Picton will encounter some delays as the road is strengthened and smoothed over the next few weeks.

Road paving and underlying layers have a limited life and, with weather and traffic, become weaker and increasingly rough as potholes and ruts form. Ultimately, if not repaired, driving safety would be compromised.

Marlborough Roads (NZTA’s local office) always tries to take action before motorists face poor road conditions and before the maintenance jobs themselves become too big and costly.

Unfortunately for the public, the best time to do road works is over the summer months just when traffic is at its busiest. With that in mind, Marlborough Roads doesn’t embark on repairs during the peak holiday period.

But from mid-January until April, you’ll notice that our roading teams are flat out doing repairs.

Over the next fortnight, work will be underway on State Highway One north of Tua Marina and near Lindens Road. Delays should not be more than five minutes but keep the road works in mind if you’re driving to the ferry.

Other work scheduled for this year is at Onamalutu and Waihopai and in Blenheim in Scott Street and Auckland Street.
