A Dragon Dance Group from Wellington will bring spectacular style and colour to International Cultures Day in Hastings next month.

The Dragon Dance team is based at the Wellington Chinese Sports and Cultural Centre and has appeared at many events across the North Island. In 2010 the team finished eighth at the World Luminous Dragon Dance Championships in Hong Kong. The members of the team range in age from 13 to 50.

Hawke’s Bay Branch of New Zealand China Friendship Society president Sally Russell says “The Chinese Dragon Dance group will bring a new and exciting element to International Cultures Day. The group has a growing reputation as top class performers and their performance will also help educate the community on Chinese culture.”

The Dragon Dance group will perform at 12 noon and they will also present the Lion Dance at 1.15pm and 2.30pm.

Sally Russell says “Food is also a huge part of International Cultures Day and will be available from many of the cultural groups which will set up stalls on the day. A wide range of delicacies will be on offer including Chinese, Dutch, German, Philippine, Brazilian, Indian, Indonesian, Sri Lankan and hangi food.”

The annual International Cultures Day is being held from 11am to 3.30pm Saturday March 3rd, at Cornwall Park.
