The Auditor-General has agreed to Council’s request to undertake a review of the decision-making, financial and contract processes used to approve and implement the Mangawhai Community Wastewater Scheme.

Mayor Neil Tiller welcomed the decision saying “Both the Council and the community of Mangawhai have questions and concerns that really need to be addressed at a grass roots level. I have every confidence that the review will be comprehensive and provide insight into what happened and how Council needs to improve.”

“The review will also provide the independent investigation into the issues affecting Council that members of the Mangawhai community have been seeking for some time” said Mayor Tiller. “We at Council know we need to own the problems but I say to those who raised the concerns, let’s look to the solutions together”.

The Office of the Auditor-General is preparing draft terms of reference for the review which are expected to be made public in the near future.
