The hallowed grounds of Eden Park will be open to all on this Sunday 11 March giving people the chance to walk on the pitch and take a behind-the-scenes look through the facilities.

All people interested in visiting the historic ground where the All Blacks recently won the 2011 Rugby World Cup will be able to do so for the price of a gold coin donation which will go to St John.

“St John works tirelessly across all sporting codes and we’re delighted to be able to provide an opportunity to give something back to such a worthy charity,” says Eden Park CEO, David Kennedy.

“It’s also exciting to be able to give people the chance to come to the park to see and experience some of the unique areas they wouldn’t normally have access to, including the changing rooms, coaches box and field of play.”

On any given Saturday qualified St John officers provide first aid cover at between 60 and 100 events around the country.

At Eden Park itself, St John provides first aid for around 45 events a year.   Since 2006 St John officers have treated more than 350 people at cricket matches, 1000 people at rugby games, 11 at a karate competition and 21 at a rugby league game.

St John Northern Regional Events Manager, Mike McAulay, says his team of officers provide a vital service ensuring prompt and expert first aid is available for people attending or taking part in events.

The open day is on Sunday 11 March, from 10am until 2pm.  Entry is through Gate A on the corner of Sandringham and Walters Road and Gate H on Reimers Ave.
